Reviews
So many others have commented on this book and how it is a "must" for photography fans and they are right. This is one of those collections wherein the sum is greater than the parts. You might question the selection of some individual photos, especially the cloud series, but taken in the whole, these two volumes represent a master class of not only early photography style, but also in developing your photographer's "eye". Take your time with this book. When I got it, I dashed through before putting it away, and then circled backed to take in smaller bites. One complaint is that Amazon shipping department need lessons in how to properly box and protect heavy art books from transit damage. We pay a lot of money for these books and therefore have a right to expect them to arrive undamaged. I got my first set, notice how the outer shipping box was poorly taped and a few corners were crushed. I held my breath and opened the box. There was barely any protective packing inside and what little there was, half the air bags were already flat. Even if all the airbags had been full, there was about 30% of what would be required to do the job properly. One side was completely unprotected. Disgusting.I called Amazon customer service and to their credit, they immediately shipped out a replacement as well as a UPS call tag for the damaged one. The review above is for the replacement set I received. Can't fault the customer service, just a shame to see a beautiful book so poorly handled in the first place. This has happened to me in the past. Don't know why shipping departments can send a glass toaster oven with no issues but cannot manage to properly pack an art book. Given the state of publishing, art books, especially these kinds, maybe the last physical books published so they should take better care.
